Reading To Your Kids
Why Should You Read To Your Kids?

Why Should You Read To Your Kids?

What is the most important trait you would like to develop in your child? If you are like most parents, intelligence is at the top of your wish list. We all want bright, smart kids. Which is why we spend  much of our time choosing good schools and making sure the teachers are exceeding our expectations, but remember as a parent you have the power to boost your children's reading and learning potential simply by making quality children's books a consistent part of their lives. We all know reading children's books to our kids is a good thing, but are you familiar with the exact advantages your toddler or child can receive by being exposed to the benefits of reading best children's books? Below are some benefits that show the importance of reading quality children's books to your child between the ages of one and five.

  • A stronger relationship with you. As your child grows, they will be on the move, playing, running and constantly exploring. Cuddling up with a popular children's book lets the two of you slow down and recapture that sweet cuddly time you enjoyed when your child was a baby.
  • Academic excellence. One of the greatest benefits of reading best kids books to toddlers is a higher perception for learning in general. Numerous studies have shown that students who are exposed to reading quality children's books before preschool are much more likely to do well in all avenues of formal education.
  • Basic speech skills. Throughout toddler-hood, your child is learning critical language and pronunciation skills. By listening to you read One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, your child is learning the basic sounds that form language.
  • The basics of how to read a book. Children are not born with the knowledge that text is read from left to right or that the words on a page are separate from the illustrations.
  • Better communication skills. When you spend time reading kids books to toddlers they will be  more likely to express themselves and relate to others in a constructive way.
  • Mastery of language. Early reading for toddlers has been linked to a better understanding of the fundamentals of language as they approach school age.
  • More logical thinking skills. Another example of the importance of reading quality children's books to children is their ability to grasp concepts, apply logic in various scenarios, recognize cause and effect and utilize good judgment.
  • Acclamation to new experiences. As your child approaches a new developmental milestone or a potentially stressful experience. Sharing a common story is a great way to help ease the transition.
  • Enhanced concentration and discipline. Toddlers may first squirm and become distracted during story book time, but eventually they will learn to stay still for the duration of the book.
  • The knowledge that reading is fun! Early reading of best kids books for toddlers helps them view kids books as excitement, not a chore.
