Now that school has been in session for a few weeks now, your children should be adjusting to being in school. The first couple of days the kids are scared and nervous. They have a new classroom, a new teacher and new kids in their class. After the first couple of weeks of school, they begin to adjust and get comfortable. They start to settle into their routines. They get use to the way that their teacher runs the classroom. The homework assignments begin to come home. Along with this comes the adapting phase for the teachers. They are getting to know their new students and after a couple of weeks have learned all the names of the students. Once everything has settled down, then it is time to get back to some serious learning. If after a couple of weeks of school it seems as though your child is not adapting, it is time to set up an appointment with the teacher or counselor to see how to make your child feel more comfortable so they can begin to learn. Remember to always tell your child that you love them and praise them daily.
Grandparents Day is quickly approaching yet this year again. Have you begun to get ready for Grandparents Day? How do you even prepare for such a day. Well, I am sure that it has been a while since the grandparents have been in a school. There is so much that has changed since they have been in school. You should first make them aware of how your childs school operates so that there will be little confusion on this special day. Let them know who your childs teacher is, what your child is working on in their different classes and how to get to your childs classroom from the main entrance. Have your child prepare a special gift to give to their grandparents on this special day. It does not need to be anything fancy, a picture or a drawing will be much appreciated by your childs grandparents and your child will love to give them something that they created. Don't miss out on our back to school sale that will be ending in less than two weeks. These great deals are coming to an end.
Do you read to your children? Do they read to you? This is a great way to get them motivated to read. When you sit down to read them a book, let them take a turn reading to you. A way you could do this is for you to read one page and then let them read a page. Do this throughout the entire book. It will give them a sense of accomplishment and increase their self-esteem and confidence. If you have a child that is too young to read have them tell you what is happening by looking at the pictures on the page without you reading the page first. This will help develop their communication skills by association. Another thing that you can do is after reading the book have them retell the story in their own words. If they have difficulty with this at first keep encouraging them and with time they will be able to recite the story to you. Remember to check out our back-to-school sale going on right now for a limited time. Every childrens book on the site is on sale.

It is getting close to time for back to school for the kids. I hope all of your children are enjoying their summer vacation as it begins to wind to an end. I am sure that all the parents loved spending that extra time with their children. The time that they do not get during the school year. We would like to hear what you as parents do to get ready for the start of the new school year. What do your kids do to get ready for the next grade? It is always interesting to hear all the different stories from each family about how they prepare for the upcoming school year which is only a few weeks away. I will start by telling my story as to how our family prepares for back to school. I begin the transformation with 2 weeks of vacation left. There is no more staying up late. They have a bed time of 8:30 during the school year. This will give them 10 hours of sleep before they need to get up and get ready for school. I start serving lunch at the time they will be eating in school. I also eliminate the naps or resting after lunch. This will train their bodies to be awake all day. I still continue with reading, math and other educational material until the last 3 days of vacation. The last 3 days are used for resting the brain before they start the school year. I am probably forgetting one or two other things that I do, but these are the major changes that seem to make the transition a little easier for them. Please let us know how you approach this. This should be fun!
