It can be a no win battle getting your child to read. This becomes more difficult during the summer months when they just want to relax and hang out with their friends. Do not show your frustration when your child becomes stubborn. They will feed off of your frustration and the situation will only become worse. Instead, relax and offer up incentives for them to read. An example of an incentive for your child could be having a friend stay the night or allow your child to stay out an extra hour if your towns curfew permits. These types of examples are especially useful if your child is a teenager. If your child is a bit younger letting them play for a little while longer or letting a friend stay over for longer periods of time gives them great incentive and motivation to read.
