Now that school has been in session for a few weeks now, your children should be adjusting to being in school. The first couple of days the kids are scared and nervous. They have a new classroom, a new teacher and new kids in their class. After the first couple of weeks of school, they begin to adjust and get comfortable. They start to settle into their routines. They get use to the way that their teacher runs the classroom. The homework assignments begin to come home. Along with this comes the adapting phase for the teachers. They are getting to know their new students and after a couple of weeks have learned all the names of the students. Once everything has settled down, then it is time to get back to some serious learning. If after a couple of weeks of school it seems as though your child is not adapting, it is time to set up an appointment with the teacher or counselor to see how to make your child feel more comfortable so they can begin to learn. Remember to always tell your child that you love them and praise them daily.

When the summer heats up, crank on the AC and read a good book. This is a great way to spend some quality time with your child. Your child will have a multitude of ideas as to what qualifies as a good book to them. Have your preschoolers sound out the letters and then put them together to make words. By doing this not only do they get to spend time with you, but also begin to learn to read in the same process.
With May being in our sights, this means that the end of the school year is approaching. While it is nice to relax during the summer vacation, it is very important that kids continue to read. Whether they are beginning readers or more advanced in their teen years. It is still necessary to read on a daily basis. The summer months can prove how fun it is to read. Instead of having to read all of your school books, you can pick something that you really enjoy, relax and read. Share your thoughts and opinions with us here on this blog.
We as parents tend to push our kids, sometimes a little too hard. I know that I am guilty of this from time to time myself. So what is the appropiate age for children to begin to read? Of course, the real answer is that it depends on the child. But without risking a lengthy debate, under normal circumstances they should be able to read short easy sentences beginning in kindergarten. Which will transform them to be considered readers in the first grade. Let us know your thoughts and opinions on this subject.
